Did you know that your spiritual practices and beliefs affect your confidence in yourself?
Many of us believe in a higher power, and we all have good reasons for doing so. Our beliefs in a higher power influence the way we think and the way we respond to life’s ups and downs. Believing that we are connected to a greater source gives meaning and substance to our lives. It also affects what we believe about ourselves. And what we believe about ourselves will ultimately affect our confidence and self esteem. For instance, I believe in God and His Son, Jesus. I believe that since Christ died for me, I now have a relationship with God that allows me to access peace, joy and an abundant life through him. Even when I get discouraged, I have confidence that God is with me and I don’t have to worry. In fact, my favorite scripture is…
I can do all things Through Christ who gives me strength.
God’s Word not only gives me confidence in my situations, but it also boosts my self esteem and confidence in myself. Faith in a his power gives me faith in myself. I could easily be overcome by doubt and fear, but my belief in God helps me know that it is His will to give me strength. It is His will to see me go through life in love and peace – the complete opposite of fear and worry.
Even though I believe in God, I don’t believe in putting down other religions or other people for that matter, so we will just leave it at that. What I want to bring to light here is that when you do focus on developing a spiritual practice it will allow you to see yourself and your situation as it relates to others. This shift in thinking means that you go beyond your own needs and desires. It also means your focus shifts from your little bubble to seeing the bigger picture of where you fit into the grand scheme of life. This is why your purpose is so important. It gives you the right perspective and lets you filter everything through the right lens.
What you feed your spirit, the things you believe, also affect your confidence in other people. Don’t believe me? Think about it this way: If you believe all people are bad and no one can be trusted, you will not have any confidence in other people. This negative belief will affect how you talk to people, what you allow others to help you with and ultimately lead you to putting more pressure on yourself than necessary because well, you don’t trust anyone.
I know we all have different spiritual beliefs, but I couldn’t leave out how important this is to our self-esteem and confidence. When you practice digging deeper and developing your spiritual relationship with your Creator, you can’t help but be more confident, because you’ll be working, living, eating, thinking and enjoying life with a purpose. You’ll love better, live better, treat others better, and most importantly you’ll treat yourself better. Isn’t that what really matters?
